Ratings Metal Detectors – Quick Overview

The Ratings for Metal Detectors given in this table are an average of the total of the ratings I could find across the web.

NOTE: IN ALMOST ALL MOST CASES a 5 star $99 detector is not better then a 4 star $300 detector!! Most people rate the detectors based upon the relative price, the functions advertised, how well they work and in many cases or most cases, against comparable metal detectors.

Note: Once you get into the Greater then $150 range (the adults and hobbyist and professional Metal Detectors) most of the modern metal detectors work very well. So you don't see a lot of low scores on the higher priced detectors. As the detectors go up in price You pay more for more features, greater depth, more ruggedness, etc.. Often the difference between a score of 4.9 and 5 might be as simple as the weight of the detector, or the type of batteries it takes.

The Prices of the metal detectors given are the prices from Amazon or other Metal Detector sources NOT the list price. The list price is often 20% higher. They can swing a bit as many of Amazons suppliers change the price of the metal Detectors frequently.

We gave our opinion based upon "classes" or metal detectors. So:

A Childrens Metal Detector is the simplest , works, but has the least functionality,
A teenagers Metal Detector has more functionality then a childrens and works better then the childrens,
An adults Metal Detector is good for someone who wants to get in the hobby but you don't know how much they are going to use it so you don't want to pay a fortune,
A hobbyist metal detector is full features, deeper penetrating, its durable and will last longer.
A Professional class is the best and goes the deepest but may be more complex and take longer to use.
