There are thousands of stories like this every year. Treasures small and large being found by people enjoying the day outside with a hobby that gets them fresh air, exercise and the thrill of finding lost treasure!

But half the fun of owning a Metal Treasure Detector is all the other things you find like: old fair tokens, rings, buttons, toys. pins, jewelry, and new friends!

And the Metal Treasure Detector Technology  is so advanced now that you can push a button to tell the Detector what to look for and the detector can even give you  a screen that tells you what it thinks it has found BEFORE you dig!

It's Easy To Get Started with a Metal Treasure Detector

The price of good quality, lightweight metal detectors have been going down in recent years.  You can find them at Sears, for goodness' sakes. The sub $100 detectors are not as good or as durable as the Hobby Class ones. You can buy a good hobby class detector form one of the top 3 manufacturers for $175 – $295. This is not much more then the cheap ones but 10x as good!

Here are a few Entry Level Metal Treasure Detector  that I would recommend

These range from Under $100 – $300.

You can always add on extras like different search coils, longer life batteries or super sensitive head phones later on. Or you can buy a combo pack that has everything at a reduced price. It is up to you.

But at the end of the day you really only need the detector and something to dig with (like a small gardeners trowel). A probe is nice, like a 12 inch long screwdriver or ideally piece of strong plastic. This is to press into the ground and probe for the target you are digging. It can help you find it faster and keep from damaging it while digging it up.

What about a used Metal Treasure Detector?

You can find them used but I advise against buying a used metal treasure detector unless you know what you are doing. Yes you may luck out and get a detector that has been hardly used for half the price but you are just as likely to get a detector that was not cared for and knocked around and that may work intermittently or not at all. Buyer be ware.

What Types of Metal Treasure Detectors are there?

There are ones made for general purpose. They are the best to start with. They will find Gold, Silver coins and relics.

  • There are Metal Treasure Detectors that are meant specifically for GOLD hunting.
  • There are ones meant just for coins.
  • And just for beach
  • Waterproof even! (That is where you go to find the most gold rings and jewelry -in the water. That is where I lost my Platinum class ring, in about 4 feet of water when I was 20).
  • There are professional-quality metal detectors that can be used on boats, as well as other vehicles.  There are those with ground radar that can usually detect how far down in the earth a piece of metal is and some even guess what the metal is and in some cases determine the shape of the metal object.  Metal detectors are used in this case by surveyors, utility companies looking for pipelines and miners.  The detectors used for these professions can often run into five figures.
  • There are also special deep searching relic detectors.

What type of Metal Treasure Detector should you get to start out with?

1) If you intend on spending a lot of time searching the beach then get one that is designed for that with a waterproof model being a smart  option unless you never intend to go near the water. You can click on this link to read our guide to 5 Metal Detectors for the Beach.

2) If you intend to search strictly for gold then get a Gold Metal Treasure Detector. You can click on this link to read our guide to 5 Gold Metal Detectors

3) Otherwise I recommend a good quality one that is meant for Coins, relics and Jewelry. That is what 80% of the detectors are meant for.

4) Get a good quality Metal Treasure Detactor. Meaning as good of a quality one as you can afford. The bettor ones really do a better job of finding good valuables (Gold, silver, jewelry, coins and relics), of discriminating out junk (nails, aluminum pop tops, etc) and penetrating deeper into the ground.

5) And the automated ones with a quality digital target ID and real deep finding technology are in the $295 – $799 range.

6) The pro level is the $800 – $1200 range. Wow are they great. But there is more to learn on some of these.

7) No matter which you choose, you have to get out and practice! Too many people get too excited and head straight out without even having read the instructions or realizing that they need to charge the batteries!

8) If you don't take the time to learn how to use it you will just get frustrated, not find anything and quit.

9) Metal Treasure Detectors really do find buried Treasure! and you can have a lot of fun, build up a great collection of finds and actually make a lot of money if you just take the time to learn and become proficient with your machine!

There are many different types of Metal Treasure Detectors on the market.

The Main manufacturers that you should consider are :

  • Whites
  • Fisher
  • Tesoro
  • Garrett
  • Teknetiks
  • Bounty Hunter
  • Minelab

You Are Not Alone, there are Metal Treasure Detector clubs thru out the USA and around the world!

Metal Treasure Detector finds Massive Anglo Saxion Treasure

There are treasure hunting clubs all over the country.  In order to find out the closest one to you, contact the Federation of Metal Detector and Archeological Clubs (FMDAC).  Although most of these clubs cater to adults, there are some clubs strictly for kids and some clubs will allow kids to enter with an adult.  There are treasure hunting clubs in other countries besides America.  For example, in England, the use of metal detectors for treasure hunting has gone up 20% in the year 2006.

Treasure hunting is a hobby that not only lets you get to play with big toys, perhaps make some money, but also gets your outside and exercising.  You should be exercising regularly, anyway, but just doing the same old exercises over and over again can get boring.  And, you can also make new friends with the treasure hunting hobby.

There have been incredible things found by regular people with metal detectors.  These finds include rare coins, buried cars and ancient artifacts.  And if you loose your wedding ring in a forest, chances are you'll be able to find it again before your spouse finds out about your little accident.

So click on some of our links and get started in this great hobby!
